Junior Maggie Krause competes in the Pole Vault at 2019 NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships

GENEVA — Junior All-American Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) competed in the women's pole vault at the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on a windy Thursday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute.
She missed on her three attempts at the opening height of 3.50 meters and did not place in the event.
On her first attempt, she appeared to clear the bar cleanly, but the gusty wind blew the bar off and it was ruled a miss by the judges.
"It was unfortunate for Maggie to end her season this way," ONU head coach Jason Maus said. "She had a great year and is having a great career so far. She's a two-time All-American and has her entire senior season ahead of her. Getting to the NCAA Championships is hard and doing well at them is even harder.
"It was difficult to tell on her first jump. It was really windy and that's a tough call for the judges to make. She needs to use this as motivation and come back ready to go next year."
Krause earned All-America honors at the 2018 Outdoor Championships with an eighth place finish, clearing 3.65 meters, and finished seventh at the 2019 Indoor Championships in March with a height of 3.75 meters.
She was seeded seventh out of 22 women with a season-best height of 3.88 meters.
The top eight in each event earn All-America honors.
Senior Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) will compete in the prelims of the 800-meter dash on Friday at 4 p.m. The top two finishers from each of the three heats plus the next three best times will advance to the finals on Saturday at 1:50 p.m.
On the men's side, senior two-time All-American Ian McVey (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) will compete in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday at 3:25 p.m.
