Krause, Ewing, Wright win events to lead Women's Track in 2019 season opening Tiffin Open

TIFFIN — Junior All-American Maggie Krause (Chagrin Falls/Kenston), senior Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) and sophomore Megan Wright (Eaton/Twin Valley South) all won events to lead the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team in its 2019 season opener at the Tiffin Open on Friday night at the Heminger Center.
Krause won the pole vault by clearing 3.76 meters, Ewing won the mile in 5:31.30 and Wright won the 3,000-meter run in 10:55.76.
Wright led a 1-2-3 ONU finish in the 3k as freshman Rue Whitmore (Mason) was second in 11:01.12 and Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe) was third in 11:03.64.
Sophomore Chyanne Retcher (Ney/Fairview) was second behind Ewing in the mile in 5:34.19.
Sophomore Stella DeWitt (Weston/Cardinal Stritch Catholic) was third in the triple jump with a leap of 10.08 meters.
Senior thrower Tia Harris (Newton Falls) would also earn a third-place finish in the women's shot put event with a 12.98-meter toss, resetting her own indoor school record. The 42-foot, seven-inch heave would also top all NCAA Division III competitors at Tiffin this weekend.
Senior Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta) was fourth in the 400 in 1:04.28 and junior Madeleine Routhier (West Unity/Hilltop) was fourth in the 800 in 2:31.65.
The distance medley relay team of sophomore Kylie Vestal (Youngstown/Austintown Fitch), Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove), senior Michaela Fox (Bellevue) and Routhier opened the meet with a second place finish in 13:35.16.
Northern also finished strong as the 4x400 relay team of junior Melinda McIntosh (Farmersville/Valley View), freshman Courtney Smith (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin), freshman Renee Lange (St. Henry) and Ewing finished third in 4:23.44.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Jan. 26 at the Findlay Classic.
