Friday's Preview: The Ohio Northern women's track and field program will kick off its 2019 indoor slate this Friday, January 18 when the Polar Bears compete in the Tiffin Dragon Open, hosted by NCAA Division II institution Tiffin University ... The meet is slated for a 6 p.m. start time inside the Heminger Center with the women competing in the long jump, weight throw, and pole vault events to begin the evening ... Friday night's meet was previously scheduled for Saturday, January 19, but impending winter weather from Winter Storm Harper has forced the competition to be moved one day prior ... The Polar Bears are coming off an exceptional 2018 season that included capturing the Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship crown, a runner-up finish at the OAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, and an 85-20 overall record ... Northern also registered a third-place team effort at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, which marked the highest finish at the national meet in program history ... Head Coach Jason Maus and his staff return 19 former letterwinners, seven All-OAC honorees, three conference champions, and an All-American in junior pole vault specialist Maggie Krause this season ... Krause garnered All-American status last spring with an eighth-place finish in the pole vault at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in LaCrosse, Wisconsin ... Senior sprinter Taylor Fisher, junior sprinter Taylor Lavey, and senior mid-distance runner Avery Ewing all return after being crowned OAC champions last season ... The trio teamed up with former Ohio Northern standout Emily Richards to claim the OAC indoor and outdoor 4x400-meter relay event titles while Ewing also captured the indoor 500-meter dash crown in 2018 ... Additionally, senior Michaela Fox (4x800-meter relay), junior Melinda McIntosh (100-meter hurdles), and sophomore Stella DeWitt (long jump, triple jump) will return to the program after earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors one season ago ... Senior thrower Tia Harris also comes back for her final season as the program's indoor shot put record holder with a 12.87-meter toss at the Oiler Open back in December 2018.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus enters his 10th season leading the Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs at Ohio Northern ... He currently owns a 366-121-1 record during the women's indoor season, a .751 win percentage.
