NEW CONCORD — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team extended its season-best five-game winning streak Saturday. The Polar Bears shut out Muskingum 3-0 to improve to 9-2-2 overall and 3-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
ONU peppered Muskingum goaltender Katie Bodenmiller with 37 shots, 22 of which were on frame. Northern's senior goalie Meagan Grierson (Dayton/Miamisburg) only needed to make one save for her sixth shut out of 2019.
Junior Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) had four of the 37 shots, and the one during the 29th minute found the back of the net, giving the Polar Bears a 1-0 advantage. It was her team-leading 12th score of the season.
Sophomore Caroline Goeller (Dayton/Oakwood) made it a 2-0 game in the 41st minute with her first-career goal. Junior Siena Ward (Newport Beach, Cal./Newport Harbor) put the finishing touches on the win in the 74th minute, scoring off a feed from junior Megan Breier (Plainfield, Ill./North). It was Ward's third goal of 2019 and all have all occurred in the last two contests.
The Polar Bears return home and host Wilmington Wednesday at 7 p.m.
