Mark Batman enters his 16th season at the helm of the Ohio Northern women’s soccer program as just the fourth head coach in program history.

During the 2018 season, the Polar Bears posted a 14-4-1 overall record and a 7-1-1 mark in the OAC to secure their 15th straight winning season and 13th consecutive OAC upper-division finish. Ohio Northern also made their fourth consecutive trip to the OAC Tournament finals with a 2-0 win over Mount Union in the semifinal round.

Batman was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2017 after guiding Northern to a 20-2-2 overall record and an undefeated 9-0-0 mark in OAC action. Batman and the Polar Bears made their first NCAA Div. III Tournament appearance since the 2012 season and advanced to the program's first Elite 8 appearance. For their efforts, the United Soccer Coaches named Batman and his staff the Division III Great Lakes Staff of the Year.

Under his direction, ONU has made 10 appearances in the OAC Tournament championship game, earned four OAC Regular Season titles, and two tournament crowns.

In 2009, Batman guided Ohio Northern to its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance against Wittenberg after leading the team to a second-place finish in the OAC.

In 2007, he led the Polar Bears to an 8-0-1 mark in the OAC and their first OAC Regular Season title since 1998. For his efforts, he was named OAC Coach of the Year.

Batman is the winningest head coach in program history with a 199-80-27 overall record in 15 seasons.

Batman came to Ohio Northern after assistant coaching stints at Savannah (Ga.) Arts and Design, Dubuque (Iowa), and his alma mater, Wilmington.

The Yellow Springs, Ohio, native served as an assistant men’s soccer coach and the assistant sports information director at Savannah A&D in 2003.

From 2001-02, Batman was a graduate assistant for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Dubuque after serving as an assistant men’s soccer coach at Wilmington in 2000.

Batman graduated from Wilmington with a bachelor’s degree in sport management in 2000 and earned his master’s degree in physical education from Loras (Iowa) in 2003.

He holds an NSCAA Premier Diploma and is in his fourth year as a trainer at the United States Women's National Team Training Center, where he helps identify talent for the U.S. Women's National Team. His duties have included hosting practices throughout the region for elite soccer players and identifying potential national team players.

As a student-athlete, Batman was a two-time All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference honoree at Wilmington, earning First-Team kudos during his sophomore and junior seasons.

He was also selected First-Team All-Great Lakes Region and the team’s MVP as a senior in 1999. Batman helped his team make two Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament and achieve a national ranking as high as No. 12.

Cayleb Paulino

Title: Assistant Women's Soccer Coach

Cayleb Paulino is in his first season as the assistant women's soccer coach at Ohio Northern after taking over the role in December 2018.

He assumed the position during his fourth year at ONU, having been an assistant coach for the men's soccer program during the 2015-18 seasons. During his stint with the men's program, the Polar Bears compiled a 59-20-9 overall record, captured an OAC Regular Season and OAC Tournament crown in 2015, and made back-to-back NCAA Division III Tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016.  

Prior to joining the Polar Bear staff, Cayleb served as an assistant coach for the men's and women's soccer programs at Defiance from 2012-2014. While there, he earned his Master's of Arts in Education with a concentration in Sport Coaching.

A 2011 graduate from Wilmington, Cayleb was a four-year varsity letter winner for the WC men's soccer program. During his athletic career, Paulino was a two-year captain, two-time Academic All-OAC honoree, and an All-East Region Scholar-Athlete.

The Sidney, Ohio native earned an undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education with a coaching minor from Wilmington in 2011.
