Griffin joins 100-Hit Club as Softball splits OAC doubleheader with John Carroll on Senior Day

ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team split a doubleheader with John Carroll on Senior Day on a sunny and windy Saturday.
The Basics
- ONU won the opener 13-1 and JCU took the night game 7-3.
- Records: Ohio Northern (15-9 overall, 6-2 OAC), John Carroll (2-15 overall, 1-3 OAC).
- Venue: Durbin-Hileman Field - Ada, Ohio.
Game 1 - W, 13-1 (5 innings)
- An 8-run third inning led Ohio Northern to a win in the first game of the doubleheader.
- In the bottom of the first inning, senior Kaylie Griffin (Grafton/Elyria Catholic) hit a sacrifice fly to score junior Ashley Lenser (Brookeville).
- To start the huge third inning, junior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) singled home junior Mariana Alejandro (Gibsonburg).
- Fifth-year senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) hit her sixth home run of the season to add three more runs, making the score 5-0.
- Freshman Ashley Simko (Lebanon) singled up the middle to score sophomores Kylie King (London/Jonathan Alder) and Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta).
- To finish out the bottom of the third, Alejandro hit an inside-the-park home run, scoring Simko and making the score 9-0.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Motylinski singled up the middle to score Rosser.
- Griffin scored off a single by Wilson, who was then hit home by sophomore Olivia Villies (Pickerington/Central) making the score 13-0 at the end of the fourth inning.
- Lenser started the game in the pitching circle, striking out four and only allowing one hit.
- Senior Demi Sauter (Upper Arlington) finished out the last two innings.
- ONU out-hit JCU 16-3.
Game 2 - L, 3-7
- In the bottom of the first, Griffin hit a double to score Lenser and Rosser.
- Griffin was then driven home by Wilson, making the score 3-0.
- John Carroll scored once in the top of the third inning, cutting the Ohio Northern's lead to 3-1.
- The Blue Streaks scored the rest of their runs in the top of the fourth inning, making the score 7-3.
- Senior Kayla Runyon (Tipp City) pitched the first 3.2 innings.
- Freshman Taylor Keck (Wadsworth) pitched the last 3.1 innings, striking out four batters.
- JCU out-hit ONU 13-7.
Notables
- Griffin now has 100 career hits and has become the 46th member of ONU's 100-Hit Club.
- Motylinski now has 23 home runs in her career at Ohio Northern, which moves her into fourth place in school history.
- She also has 134 career base hits and 91 career RBIs.
- Motylinski, Rosser, and Wilson lead Ohio Northern in batting through 22 games this season with averages of .446, .438 and .410, respectively.
- Lenser is now 7-1 with 43 strikeouts and a 1.89 ERA in 47 innings in the circle.
- ONU is now 57-22 all-time against JCU.
- Ohio Northern is in its 57th season of softball. The Polar Bears are 987-669-4 all-time, a winning percentage of .595.
