ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team opened the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a doubleheader split against Marietta on Friday afternoon.
The Basics
- ONU won the opener 9-4 and dropped the nightcap 8-6.
- Records: Ohio Northern (8-8 overall, 1-1 OAC), Marietta (7-10 overall, 1-1 OAC).
- Venue: Durbin-Hileman Stadium - Ada, Ohio.
Game 1 - W, 9-4
- Northern scored four runs in both the first and third innings to build an early 9-4 lead.
- Junior Callie Rosser (Republic/Monroeville) went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and one RBI for ONU.
- Fifth-year senior Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) was 2-for-4 with a triple and 3 RBI.
- Junior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) scattered 10 hits, allowing four earned runs and struck out six to earn the win un the circle and improve to 4-1 on the season.
- Ohio Northern out-hit Marietta 13-10.
Game 2 - L, 6-8
- Marietta scored three times in the top of the fifth to expand its 5-3 lead into an 8-4 advantage.
- Northern rallied with two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh to get within 8-6, but the Pioneers would get out of the jam with runners on first and second.
- Motylinski was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and junior Taylor Hilty (Kettering/Fairmont) was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and 1 RBI.
- Each team had 10 base hits in the contest.
Notables
- The Polar Bears wrapped up a 6-game homestand at brand-new Durbin-Hileman Stadium.
- Lenser and Rosser lead Ohio Northern in batting through 16 games this season with averages of .435, and .426.
