CLERMONT, Fla. — The Ohio Northern softball team defeated Catholic (D.C.) 7-2 and fell to No. 8-ranked Case Western Reserve 4-2 Monday on the second day of its annual spring break trip.
The Basics
- Records: Ohio Northern (3-1 overall), Catholic (3-4 overall), Case Western Reserve (8-1 overall)
- Venue: Legends Way #2 - Clermont, Fla.
Game 1 - W, 7-2
- Junior Kayla Runyon (Tipp City) threw a complete game 6-hitter, allowing only one earned run while striking out one, to earn the win in the circle and improve to 2-0 on the season.
- Junior Taylor Hilty (Kettering/Fairmont) and sophomore Allie Wilson (Wapakoneta) and each had two hits to lead the ONU offense.
- ONU broke open a 2-2 tie with a 3-run fifth frame.
- Northern made it 7-2 with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth.
- The Polar Bears out-hit the Cardinals 10-6.
Game 2 - L, 2-4
- Fifth-year Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) and junior Ashley Lenser (Brookville) led the Polar Bear offense with two hits each.
- Lenser (1-1) allowed 11 hits and three earned run while striking out five over 6.0 innings in the circle for Ohio Northern.
- Northern scored single runs in the top of the second and fourth innings, sandwiched around a 3-run bottom of the third for the Spartans, who won for the sixth consecutive time this season.
- Wilson had an RBI ground out in the second to score Motylinski with the game's first run.
- Lenser then singled home Wilson in the fourth to get ONU within 3-2.
- CWR added an insurance run in the sixth.
- The Spartans out-hit the Polar Bears Mariners 11-10.

- The Polar Bears have played four of the 10 games scheduled on their spring break trip.
- Northern is now 4-3 all-time against Catholic and 1-8 all-time against Case.
