ADA — The Ohio Northern softball team dropped 5-4 and 5-2 decisions to Wilmington on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Softball Field.
The Polar Bears fall to 11-12-1 overall and are 10-11 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers improve to 14-12, 13-9.
Senior Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) led the Northern offense by going 2-for-5 with a double, 2 RBI and a walk.
In the opening game, WC hit three home runs to build a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the third inning.
ONU answered with four runs in the home half of the third to get within 5-4.
The pitching staffs then took over as the two teams combined for only four base hits the rest of the way and WC held on for the win.
Northern scored single runs in the second and third innings of the nightcap to take a 2-0 lead.
That lead stayed in tact until the Quakers plated two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh to grab a 5-2 advantage.
The two teams will complete their 4-game series with a double header at Wilmington on Sunday.
