ADA — Senior Gabby Stewart (Union, Ky./St. Henry) hit a 2-run home run and sophomore Stacey Walters (Sunbury/Big Walnut) threw a 2-hit shutout to lead the Ohio Northern softball team to a double header split at Marietta on Saturday afternoon at Marietta Field.
The Polar Bears (3-4-1 overall, 2-4 Ohio Athletic Conference) won the opener 9-0 and the Pioneers (1-5, 1-5) took the nightcap 5-0.
In the opener, Stewart hit a 2-run home run and added a sacrifice fly for a 3-RBI game for ONU.
Walters struck out six to post her first career shutout.
Northern got one run in the second and two more in the third to go up 3-0.
Stewart's home run capped a 3-run fifth inning to give ONU a 6-0 advantage. The Polar Bears tacked on three more runs in the seventh.
Junior Rachel Hish (Gainesville, Va./Patriot) and sophomore Sydney Motylinski (Ida, Mich.) had two hits each in the opener.
In the nightcap, MC scored twice in the first and three more times in the fourth to earn the win.
Sophomore Annika Murray (Hilliard/Bradley) had two hits for ONU.
The two teams will wrap up their 4-game series with a double header at the ONU Softball Field on Sunday at 1 pm.
