Spring Break Preview: After opening the 2023 season with a three-game series with Oberlin, the Ohio Northern baseball team is traveling to Florida for 12 games in the RussMatt Invitational during Spring Break from March 11-19 … The Polar Bears open their trip with a doubleheader against Concordia (Tex.) on Saturday followed by a doubleheader with Simpson (Iowa) on Sunday … Northern will play SUNY Cobleskill on Monday, a doubleheader with Utica (N.Y.) on Tuesday, Cornell (Iowa) on Wednesday and a doubleheader with Hamilton (N.Y.) on Friday before closing out the week with games against St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Saturday and Ramapo (N.J.) on Sunday … The games will be played at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Fla., and Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale, Fla. … Northern is coming off a 4-1 win over Oberlin in what marked the earliest recorded home opener since ONU started playing baseball in 1891 … Fifth-year senior Corey McMann and senior Jacob Wenning each tallied an RBI for ONU … Junior Dakota Durick reached base twice via a single and a walk and scored two runs en route to being named Ohio Athletic Conference Baseball Hitter of the Week … Sophomore Blake Peterson got the pitching start for ONU and allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out three over four scoreless innings … Senior Jack Hutchins earned the win in relief, improving to 2-0 on the season after giving up one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out one over three innings … Sophomore Vaughn Duncan pitched the final two innings and recorded two strikeouts in securing his first career save … Through three games, freshman Chase Armstrong leads ONU with a .500 batting average, four hits and two RBIs … Sophomore Andrew Stechshulte ranks second on the team with a .375 average … Peterson leads the team with a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts on the mound … Hutchins has a 1.42 ERA with four strikeouts … Senior Tim Knapschaefer has a 3.18 ERA with five strikeouts … Knapschaefer has 102 career strikeouts, which ranks 27th in program history … McMann ranks 10th all-time at ONU with 166 career hits and is a career .329 hitter … McMann ranks third all-time at ONU with 44 career doubles … Wenning is tied for 58th all-time at ONU with 105 career hits and is a career .343 hitter.
