Invitational Preview: The Ohio Northern baseball team opens its 2022 season on Sunday at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida … The Polar Bears' nine-game Invitational slate includes doubleheaders with Marymount (Va.) and Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) and games against Immaculata (Pa.), New Jersey City, Concordia (Ill.), La Roche (Pa.) and Mitchell (Conn.) … Games are being played March 6-13 at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport and at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale … The Polar Bears are coming off a 2021 season in which they went 21-15 overall and finished third in the Ohio Athletic Conference with a 20-11 mark … ONU returns 18 lettermen, including four All-OAC honorees, from last year's squad … Senior Corey McMann earned All-OAC First Team honors in 2021, seniors Chayten Overholt and Tom Pitko earned Second Team accolades, and junior Jacob Wenning was an Honorable Mention selection … A three-year starter in right field, McMann has a .330 career batting average and 112 hits … McMann set the ONU single-season record with an OAC-leading 20 doubles last season and ranks ninth in program history with 30 career doubles … McMann finished last season in a tie for fourth in the OAC in RBIs with 43, which was the sixth-best single-season total in program history … McMann led ONU and tied for fifth in the OAC with six home runs in 2021 … The returning starter at shortstop, Overholt led ONU in batting average (.382), runs scored (36), hits (55) and triples (4) in 2021 … Overholt tied for the OAC lead in triples and ranked ninth in the league in batting average … A career .320 hitter, Overholt enters 2022 needing 27 hits to join ONU's 100-Hit Club … Pitko leads Northern's pitching staff this season after posting a 7-3 record along with a 2.54 ERA and 40 strikeouts over 63.2 innings spanning 10 appearances in 2021 … Pitko ranked fourth in the OAC in both wins and ERA … The returning starter at third base, Wenning hit .351 with nine doubles in 2021.
