Meet Preview: The Ohio Northern women's cross country team is competing in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships on Saturday at Three Fires Golf Club in Holland, Mich. … Hope (Mich.) is hosting the meet … The women's 6K race begins at 11 a.m. … The first-place finishing team will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships in East Lansing, Mich., along with the top teams in the other nine regionals, and 22 at-large bids will be awarded … The top seven individuals from each region not on a team qualifying for the national meet will receive an individual bid to the NCAA Division III Championships as well … A total of 294 competitors (32 teams of seven competitors each and 70 individuals) will qualify for the national meet … The top 35 finishers will be named to the All-Region Team … The Polar Bears have two first-place finishes as part of four top-two finishes overall this season and have placed in the top half of the standings at all six of their varsity meets … Northern is coming off a second-place finish at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Oct. 29 … That marked the team's 20th straight top-five finish at the OACs and its best finish at the OACs since winning the championship in 2012 … ONU scored 67 points, finishing behind first-place John Carroll with 36 … Fifth-year senior Tessa Pitcovich led the Polar Bears across the finish line in 22:36.9 on the 6,000-meter course, placing second of 113 runners to earn First Team All-OAC honors … Fifth-year senior Taylor Ellerbrock (13th), sophomore Ashley Hockstok (16th), freshman Kennedy Rader (17th) and sophomore Bailey Kreft (19th) earned Second Team All-OAC recognition … ONU placed seventh of 37 teams at the 2021 Great Lakes Regional Championships in Shelbyville, Ind., and Pitcovich finished fifth overall to earn a berth at the NCAA Championships meet … Pitcovich is looking to qualify for the national meet for the third time in her career … Pitcovich and Ellerbrock both earned All-Region honors last season with respective times of 22:08 and 22:43 on the 6,000 meter course … Pitcovich and Ellerbrock have career-best 6,000-meter times of 22:08 and 22:43, respectively.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 14th year as head coach of the ONU men's and women's cross country teams and is the winningest coach in school history for both programs … Over 13 seasons at ONU, he has guided the men's team to a 1,350-363 record, a winning percentage of .788, and four OAC titles and the women's team to a 1,159-468 record, a winning percentage of .712, and three OAC championships.
