Weekend Preview: The Ohio Northern women's cross country team is competing as a split squad on Friday and Saturday … Junior varsity team members will run at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Friday at Liberty Park in Powell … The women's 6k race begins at 6:45 p.m. … ONU's varsity runners will compete at the Pre-National Meet on Saturday at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. … The women's 6k race begins at 10:30 a.m. … The Pre-National Meet is being hosted by the Greater Lansing Sports Authority and Olivet College on the campus of Michigan State University … A total of 37 teams have registered to compete … Awards will be presented to the top two teams … Spectator admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students … The Polar Bears are ranked No. 31 nationally in this week's USTFCCCA Division III poll, moving up two spots from last week… Northern is ranked No. 4 in the Great Lakes Region behind Hope (Mich.), John Carroll and Calvin (Mich.) … The Polar Bears are coming off a second-place finish of 25 teams at the Rochester (N.Y.) Invitational … Northern scored 98 points, finishing behind only New York University with 46 points … Fifth-year senior Tessa Pitcovich led the Polar Bears across the finish line, placing fifth of 262 runners with a time of 23:07 on the 6,000-meter course … Fifth-year senior Taylor Ellerbrock was 10th in 23:29, junior Megan Vapenik was 23rd in 23:59, junior Olesya Mertz was 27th in 24:07 and freshman Kennedy Rader was 33rd in 24:12 to round out ONU's top five.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 14th year as head coach of the ONU men's and women's cross country teams and is the winningest coach in school history for both programs … Over 13 seasons at ONU, he has guided the men's team to a 1,302-336 record, a winning percentage of .795, and four OAC titles and the women's team to a 1,102-450 record, a winning percentage of .710, and three OAC championships.
