ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Ohio Northern women's cross country team finished second of 25 teams at the Rochester (N.Y.) Invitational on Saturday morning at Genesee Valley Park.

The Polar Bears (33-1 overall) scored 98 points, finishing behind first-place NYU with 46 points and ahead of third-place Trine (Ind.) with 116 points.

Fifth-year senior Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) led the Polar Bears across the finish line, placing fifth of 262 runners overall with a time of 23:07 on the 6,000-meter course.

Fifth-year senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) was 10th in 23:29, junior Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) was 23rd in 23:59, junior Olesya Mertz (Johnstown/Johnstown-Monroe) was 27th in 24:07, freshman Kennedy Rader (Mason/William Mason) was 33rd in 24:12, sophomore Ashley Hockstok (Westerville/Central) was 42nd in a career-best 24:22, and Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) was 49th in 24:27 to round out ONU's top seven finishers.

NYU's Grace Richardson was the top overall finisher, running a time of 22:39.

The Polar Bears return to action next week as the junior varsity runners compete at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational on Friday while the varsity runners compete in the Pre-NCAA Meet at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich., on Saturday.
