Volleyball falls at No.11 Berry (Ga.) in opening match of Berry Invitational

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. — The Ohio Northern volleyball team dropped a 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 decision at No. 11-ranked Berry (Ga.) on Friday night on the opening day of the Berry Invitational at the Cage Center.
Senior Melina Woods (Ada) led the Polar Bears (3-2) with eight kills, while senior Hannah Irmer (Indianapolis, Ind./Chatard) had 14 digs.
The Vikings (3-2) got 10 kills each from Peyton Breissinger and Jazzy Innis.
Northern jumped to a 16-11 lead in the opening set, only to see the hosts rally to tie the set at 18-all. ONU led 20-18 when BU ended the set on a 7-2 run to win 25-22.
Berry was in control of Set 2 after a quick 10-3 lead. The Polar Bears got back within 13-10 and 16-13, but the hosts held on for the 25-17 win.
In the final set, BU again led early, taking a 7-2 advantage. The Vikings did not let the Polar Bears back into the set and went on to the victory.
Ohio Northern hit .110 for the match with 27 kills and 15 errors, while Berry hit .219 with 35 kills and 12 errors.
The Polar Bears will wrap up the Berry (Ga.) Invitational on Saturday with matches against Covenant (Ga.) and Oglethorpe (Ga.)
