Walsh breaks school record as Women's Track and Field opens outdoor season with sixth place finish at Cedarville Open

CEDARVILLE — Freshman Tatum Walsh (Lima/Bath) broke the school record in the 200 as the Ohio Northern women's track and field team opened its outdoor season with a sixth place finish at the Cedarville Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open meet on Saturday.

- Record: Ohio Northern (14-5 Overall).
- Venue: Yellow Jacket Track and Field Complex - Cedarville, Ohio.
Meet Results
- Ohio Northern finished 6th of 20 teams with 48 points.
- Ashland won the team title with 126.5 points, Cleveland State was second with 80 points and Cedarville was third with 62.5 points.
- The meet consisted of 20 events, including eight field events, 10 running events and two relays.
Top ONU Performers - Cedarville
- Walsh finished seventh in the 400 in :59.39 and was 15th in the 200 in a school record :25.22.
- Junior All-American Claire Schweller (Paulding) won the pole vault and senior Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) set three PRs to lead the Polar Bears.
- Schweller won the pole vault by clearing 3.89 meters.
- Friend was second in the discus at 43.44 meters, was fifth in the shot put at 12.88 meters and was 10th in the hammer at 46.20 meters, all of which were career-best efforts that moved her up on ONU's top-10 lists.
- Sophomore Katie Floyd (Swanton) was fourth in the javelin with a toss of 37.48 meters.
- Freshman Emersyn Gerken (Liberty Center) was fourth in the high jump by clearing 1.58 meters.
- Senior Sami Sellers (Van Wert/Lincolnview) was sixth in the discus at 42.50 meters.
- Junior Lauryn Wolters (Anna) was sixth in the long jump at 5.27 meters, followed in seventh by freshman Katelyn Stechschulte (Findlay) at 5.23 meters.
- Sophomores Anna Brady (Sidney) and Katelyn Wagner (Sycamore/Wynford) also had top-10 performances in the shot with distances of 12.37 and 12.33 meters, respectively.
- Senior Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) was 10th in the 100 hurdles in :15.36.
Top ONU Performers - Washington (Mo.)
- Senior Natalie Armbruster (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) led a contingent of seven runners at the Washington (Mo.) Distance Carnival Thursday and Friday.
- Armbruster was 32nd of 36 in the 3,000 steeplechase in a career-best 11:29.80.
- Senior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) was 30th of 36 in the 1500 in a career-low 4:44.72.
Notables
- Walsh broke the previous 200 record of 25:45 set in 2021 by Kayla Silva.
- Friend remained second in the discus at 142' 6", moved into third place on ONU's shot put list with her toss of 42' 3.25" and is seventh in the hammer throw at 151' 7".
- Sellers is now third all-time in the discus at 139' 5".
- Floyd is now fourth all-time in the javelin at 122' 11".
- Brady is now sixth all-time in the shot at 40' 7".
- Armbruster is now 6th all-time in ONU history in the steeple.
- Wagner moved into seventh place on the shot put top-10 list at 40' 5.5".
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 16th year at Ohio Northern and is 504-178-3 in women's outdoor track and field for a winning percentage of .738.
