Walsh wins 400 dash, leads Women's Track and Field split-squad to sixth place finish at All-Ohio Championships

WESTERVILLE — Freshman Tatum Walsh (Lima/Bath) won the 400 to lead the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday.
The Basics
- Record: Ohio Northern (38-8 Overall).
- Venue: Clements Recreational Center - Westerville, Ohio.
- ONU competed without 12 of its top performers, who competed at the Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday.
Meet Results
- The meet consisted of 18 events, including six field events, nine running events and three relays.
- Ohio Northern was sixth of 15 teams with 60 points.
- Mount Union won the team title with 108.5 points, Ohio Wesleyan was second with 89 points and Case Western Reserve wad third with 77 points.
Top ONU Performers
- Freshman Tatum Walsh (Lima/Bath) won the 400-meter dash in 59.81 seconds.
- Sophomore Paige Simpson (Merrillville, Ind.) had two top-6 individual finishes. She was second in the 60 in :07.93 and was sixth in the 200 in :26.81.
- Junior Lauryn Wolters (Anna) was third in the long jump with a leap of 5.26 meters.
- Freshman Anna Marchiny (Beavercreek) was third in the pole vault, clearing 3.33 meters.
- Senior Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) was fifth in the 60 hurdles in 9.18 seconds.
- The 4x400 relay team of sophomore Lily Wolfe (Mansfield/Lexington), freshman Alexa Lane (Lebanon), freshman Alexandrea Vargo (Lorain/Steele) and Ashbrook were third in 4:11.98.
- Senior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll), senior Katelyn Messner (Granville), Wolfe and freshman Gwyn Eldridge (Chillicothe/Unioto) were fourth in the distance medley relay in 13:24.20.
- Sophomore Anna Brady (Sidney) was seventh in the shot put at 11.89 meters.
Notables
- Vargo was fifth in her heat of the 60 hurdles in 9.51 seconds, which moves her into a ninth place tie on ONU's all-time list in the event.
- Brady's shot put toss of 39-0 puts her 10th all-time in ONU history in the event.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is in his 16th year at Ohio Northern and is 608-182-1 in women's indoor track and field for a winning percentage of .769. He is ONU's all-time winningest coach in track and field history.
