Women's Track and Field opens Outdoor season with non-scoring meets at Washington (Mo.), Heidelberg

The Ohio Northern women's track and field team opened the outdoor portion of its schedule Thursday-Saturday at a pair of non-scoring meets.
Thursday and Friday saw six Polar Bears compete at the Washington (Mo.) Distance Carnival.
On Saturday, the remainder of the squad competed at the Tiffelberg Open, which had the running and jumping events at Heidelberg and the throwing events at Tiffin.

Top ONU Performers - Washington Distance Carnival
- Sophomore Kennedy Rader (Mason), junior Ashley Hockstok (Westerville/Central) and senior Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) finished 19th, 22nd and 40th out of 77 runners in the 10,000-meter run.
- Rader finished in 35:35.80, Hockstok in 36:41.09 and Vapenik in 39:00.91.
- In the 5,000, freshman AnnaSophia Gower (Perrysburg) was 50th of 209 in 17:52.80 and sophomore Samantha Roth (Brunswick) was 71st in 18:27.33.
- Junior Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) earned All-Conference accolades in the long jump with a second place finish of 5.43 meters.
- Junior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) was 21st of 24 in the 1500 in 4:49.32.
Top ONU Performers - Tiffelberg Open
- Sophomores Natalie Armbruster (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame) and Lauryn Wolters (Anna) each won events to lead ONU.
- Armbruster won the 3000 steeplechase in 12:14.04 and Wolters won the triple jump with a leap of 10.51 meters.
- Sophomore Claire Schweller (Paulding) was second in the pole vault by clearing 3.80 meters.
- Freshman Ashley Baker (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) was third in the triple jump with a jump of 9.87 meters.
- Burman was seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 47.44 meters and was seventh in the shot with a toss of 12.06 meters.
Notables
- Rader's 36:35.80 moves her up to fourth all-time in ONU history in the event.
- Gower's 17:52.80 in the 5k ranks her seventh all-time in ONU history in the event.
- Burman's throw in the discus moved her into 6th all-time in ONU history in the event.
- Friend currently ranks second in the discus with a career-best 139-4.
- Burman threw the weight a career-best 47.44 meters. She remains fourth on ONU's all-time list.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is now 567-173 at Ohio Northern with a winning percentage of .766.
