Ashbrook wins 60 hurdles, ONU named Coaching Staff of the Year as Women's Indoor Track and Field finishes second at Ohio Athletic Conference Championships meet

NEW CONCORD — Junior Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) won the 60-meter hurdles in a career-low :09.05, leading the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team on the second day of the 2024 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

- The Polar Bears finished second of 10 teams with 166 points.
- Mount Union won the team title with 199 points, John Carroll was third with 148 points and Baldwin Wallace was fourth with 98 points.
Top ONU Performers
- Ashbrook won the 60-meter hurdles in a career-low :09.05. Senior Rosie Schroeder (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) was seventh in the event in :09.72.
- The Polar Bears put four in the top 5 in the high jump, all with heights of 1.59 meters. Sophomore Ellie Ford (Upper Arlington) and junior Toria Ingalls (Tiffin/Columbian) earned All-OAC honors by finishing second and third, respectively. Sophomore Lindsay Weininger (Upper Sandusky) was fourth and sophomore Riley Heitkamp (Fort Loramie) was fifth.
- The Polar Bears placed four runners in the top-7 of the 3,000, led by an All-OAC performance by sophomore Samantha Roth (Brunswick), who finished third in a career-low 10:31.50. Junior Ashley Hockstok (Westerville/Central) was fifth in a career-best 10:33.75, sophomore Kennedy Rader (Mason) was sixth in a career-best 10:35.70 and freshman AnnaSophia Gower (Perrysburg) was seventh in 10:41.23.
- Sophomore Claire Schweller (Paulding), junior Kendra Krichbaum (Ashland), sophomore Stacey Legg (Monroeville) and freshman Paige Simpson (Merrillville, Ind.) earned All-Conference honors in the 4x200 relay with a second place finish in 1:48.34.
- Junior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) was fourth in the mile run in a career-low 5:13.53, followed in seventh place by freshman AnnaSophia Gower (Perrysburg) in 5:18.39.
- Matthews followed that performance with a fourth place finish in the 1000 run in 3:07.05. Freshman Isa Ramos (Tipp City/Tippecanoe) was eighth in the event in 3:09.97.
- Sophomore Lauryn Wolters (Anna) led three top-8 finishers for ONU in the triple jump, placing fourth with a career-best 10.92 effort. Freshman Ashley Baker (Derry, Pa./Derry Area) was sixth in a career-best 10.56 meters and junior Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) was eighth at 10.32 meters.
- Junior Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.39 meters. Freshman Anna Brady (Sidney) was eighth in the event with a toss of 11.63 meters.
- The 4x400 relay team of freshman Lily Wolfe (Mansfield/Lexington), freshman Leah Heitkamp (Burkettsville/Saint Henry), junior Katelyn Messner (Granville) and Ashbrook were fourth in 4:11.06.
- Freshman Paige Simpson (Merrillville, Ind.) and junior Kendra Krichbaum (Ashland) finished 6-7 in the 60-meter dash in :07.95 and :08.00, respectively.
- Simpson was also seventh in the 200 in a career-low :26.87.
Notables
- The Ohio Northern coaching staff was named the Women's Staff of the Year.
- The meet consisted of 19 events - 10 individual running events, six field events and three running relays.
- The top three finishers in each event ean All-Conference honors.
- Saturday's final day of competition featured 12 events.
- Ashbrook, Schweller and Burman all won OAC titles over the weekend with Schweller (pole vault) and Burman (weight throw) won crowns on Friday.
- Schweller was the only Polar Bear to earn All-OAC kudos in two events (PV, 4x200).
- Northern had All-Conference performances in 10 of the 19 events with a total of 16 athletes earning All-OAC honors.
- The second place finish is ONU's 10th consecutive upper division finish at the meet.
- Ashbrook moves up to third all-time in ONU history in the 60 hurdles with her :09.05.
- Simpson now ranks fourth all-time in the 200 with her :26.87 finish.
- Krichbaum's :08.00 in the 60 dash was her career-best and moves her up to fifth all-time at ONU in the event.
