Women's Indoor Track and Field wins 14-team Wittenberg Invitational

SPRINGFIELD — Junior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) and freshman Lily Wolfe (Mansfield/Lexington) each won events to lead the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team to a victory at the 14-team Wittenberg Invite on Saturday.

- The Polar Bears finished with 59 points to win the 18-team meet.
- NCAA Division I Wright State was second behind ONU with 47 points, Centre (Ky.) was third with 40, Cedarville was fourth with 39 and DePauw (In.) was fifth with 36.
Top ONU Performers
- Junior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll), freshman Isa Ramos (Tipp City/Tippecanoe), and sophomore Kaitlin Prusnek (Findlay) went 1-2-3 in the 1000 meter run. Matthews finished in 3:04.60, Ramos was second in an ONU freshman-record 3:09.49 and Prusnek was third in 3:10.54.
- Freshman Lily Wolfe (Mansfield/Lexington), junior Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge), and senior J.J. Herron (Miamisburg) finish 1-2-3 in the 500 meter run. Wolfe finished in 1:20.34, Ashbrook in 1:22.05 and Herron in 1:25.35.
- Ashbrook also finished second in the 60-meter hurdles in :09.30.
- Junior Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) won the weight throw with a toss of 17.25 meters. She also added a fourth place finish in the shot put with a heave of 12.17 meters.
- Ashbrook also finished second in the 60 meter hurdles in :09.30.
- Junior Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) placed second in the long jump with a jump of 5.46 meters and placed fourth in triple jump at 10.68 meters.
- Junior Claire Schweller (Paulding) placed second in the pole vault, clearing a career-high of 3.75 meters.
- Sophomore Ellie Ford (Upper Arlington) was fourth in the pole vault by clearing 3.35 meters.
- Junior Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) was fifth in the weight throw with a personal best throw of 14.40 meters.
- Sophomore Lauryn Wolters (Anna) was fifth in the triple jump at 10.64 meters, which is just shy of a personal best.
Notables
- The meet consisted of 17 events - 10 individual running events, six field events and one running relay.
- Matthews' time in the 1000 ranks her sixth all-time in the event at ONU and Ramos' time is the fastest ever posted by a freshman at ONU.
- Wolfe's time in the 500 is the 4th fastest time posted by a freshman at ONU in the event.
- Gibson's mark in the triple jump is an indoor personal best and ranks her tied for 10th all-time at ONU.
- Schweller's jump currently puts her 15th on the national list and lifts her up to fifth all-time in ONU history, moving her up three quarters of an inch to 12-2 3/4.
- Head Coach Jason Maus is now 567-173 at Ohio Northern with a winning percantage of .766.
