Chloe Gibson sets meet record in long jump as Women's Indoor Track and Field wins annual Joe Banks Invitational

ADA — Junior Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) broke the meet record in the long jump with a mark of 5.51 meters, leading the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team to a victory at the annual Joe Banks Invitational on Friday night.

- The Polar Bears finished with 265 points to win the 5-team meet.
- Rose-Hulman (Ind.) was second with 117 points, Otterbein was third with 102, Bluffton was fourth with 29 and Rochester (Mich.) was fifth with 22.
Top ONU Performers
- Sophomore Claire Schweller (Paulding) won the pole vault by clearing a career-best 3.73 meters, which moves her into ninth nationally in the category.
- Freshman AnnaSophia Gower (Perrysburg) won the mile run in 5:16.99, with sophomore Kennedy Rader (Mason) in third place in 5:24.21.
- Junior Toria Ingalls (Tiffin/Columbian) won the high jump by clearing 1.56m. Sophomore Lindsay Weininger (Upper Sandusky) was third at 1.53m.
- Freshman Paige Simpson (Merrillville, Ind.) and junior Kendra Krichbaum (Ashland) finished 1-2 the 60 meters in :07.99 and :08.20, respectively.
- Junior Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) won the weight throw with a toss of 15.98 meters. Junior Hannah Friend (Luckey/Eastwood) was second in the event at 13.98m.
- Senior Olesya Mertz (Johnstown) won the 1,000 in 3:09.70.
- Junior Abby Matthews (Lithopolis/Bloom Carroll) and sophomore Kaitlin Prusnek (Findlay) finished 1-2 in the 800. Matthews won in 2:25.10 and Prusnek was second in 2:27.04.
- Junior Sami Sellers (Van Wert/Lincolnview) led a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 finish in the shot put as the Polar Bears captured all 39 points in the event.
- Sellers won with a toss of 11.93m, Burman was second at 11.56m and freshman Anna Brady (Sidney) was third at 11.04m.
- Sophomore Natalie Armbruster (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame), freshman Leah Heitkamp (Burkettsville/Saint Henry), Mertz, and freshman Kalyn Kimball (Marion/Pleasant) opened the meet by winning the distance medley relay in 13:25.38.
- Wolfe, Ingalls, Matthews and junior Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) wrapped up the meet by winning the 4x400 relay in 4:15.22.
- Ashbrook placed second in the 60-meter hurdles in :09.46 and was second in the 200 in :27.69.
- Freshman Lily Wolfe (Mansfield/Lexington) was second in the 400 in 1:02.86.
- Sophomore Ellie Ford (Upper Arlington) finished second in the pole vault, clearing 3.18 meters.
- Junior Katelyn Messner (Granville) was second in the 500 in 1:27.36.
- Schweller, Krichbaum, sophomore Stacey Legg (Monroeville) and Simpson were second in the 4x200 relay in 1:50.25.
Notables
- The meet consisted of 19 events, 10 individual running events, six field events and three running relays.
- Gibson broke the meet record of 5.50 meters set in 2017 by Kelsey Commanger and tied one year later by Stella DeWitt in 2018.
- Schweller's mark in the pole vault moves her up to fifth all-time in ONU history, moving her up three quarters of an inch to 12-2 3/4.
- Ohio Northern won 10 of the 19 events, including five of the 6 field events.
