Pitcovich, Ellerbrock lead Women's Indoor Track and Field at Grand Valley State (Mich.) Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. — Seniors Tessa Pitcovich (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) led a small group of six runners of the Ohio Northern women's indoor track and field team at the Grand Valley (Mich.) Big Meet on Friday night at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
Pitcovich placed 20th of 27 in Section 2 of the 5,000-meter run, crossing the line in 17:35.35. Her time makes her the second-fastest in school history in the event.
Ellerbrock was 14th of 22 in the 3,000-meter run in 10:11.18.
Three Polar Bears competed in the Heat 5 of the 5k, led by freshman Kennedy Rader (Mason), who was 12th of 31 in 18:26.15.
Sophomore Ashley Hockstok (Westerville/Central) was 15th in that heat in 18:27.97 and junior Megan Vapenik (Strongsville) was 26th in the heat in 18:59.12.
Sophomore Bailey Kreft (Sunbury/Buckeye Valley) was seventh of 30 in Heat 6 in 19:03.63.
"I am really proud of our effort on a big stage," ONU head coach Jason Maus said. "We had a lot or P.R.s and really good performances today."
The meet was not scored.
The rest of the Polar Bear squad returns to action Saturday at the Tiffin Open.
