National Championships Preview: Senior Tessa Pitcovich and junior Anna Schatzle will represent the Ohio Northern women's track and field team this week at the 2022 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio … The meet is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday and is being hosted by the University of Mount Union and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission … The top 22 student-athletes in each event and top 16 relay teams nationwide qualified for the meet … The top eight finishers in each event earn All-American honors … Schatzle will compete in the pole vault, which begins at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday … Pitcovich will compete in the 10,000 meters, which begins at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday … Schatzle's top mark of 3.75 meters this season came at the St. Francis (Ill.) Fighting Chance Invite on May 14 … That mark ranks fourth all-time at ONU, and Schatzle enters the national meet as the No. 19 seed in the pole vault … Schatzle qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships earlier this season as the No. 19 seed with a mark of 3.72 meters and no-heighted at the meet … Schatzle is the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference champion in the outdoor pole vault and was All-OAC with a second-place finish in 2021 … Schatzle is looking to join Maddy Reed and Maggie Krause as Polar Bears to earn All-American status in the outdoor pole vault … Reed, the 2018 national champion, placed third nationally in 2017, and Krause was eighth in 2018 … Pitcovich enters the national meet as the No. 22 seed in the 10,000 meters after posting a personal-best time of 36:08.18 for an All-OAC second-place finish at the OAC Championships meet on May 5 … That time ranks second all-time at ONU … Pitcovich also earned All-OAC status with a second-place finish in the 10,000 meters in the 2021 OAC Outdoor Championships … This marks Pitcovich's first national meet appearance in track and field … She is a two-time national qualifier in cross country … Pitcovich is looking to join Mandy Miller and Alison Steinbrunner on the list of ONU's All-Americans in the 10,000 meters … Miller placed sixth and fifth nationally in 1997 and 2001, respectively, and Steinbrunner was third in 2012.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 13th season as the head women's track and field coach at ONU … He owns a 426-168-3 overall record outdoors, a winning percentage of .716.
