Women’s Outdoor Track and Field posts first-place finishes in 3 events, places third in Mike Becraft Invitational

ADA — Junior Anna Schatzle (Brookville, Ind./Franklin County), sophomore Sydney Goodrich (Romeo, Mich.) and freshman Sami Sellers (Van Wert/Lincolnview) posted first-place finishes in their respective events on Saturday to lead the Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team to a third-place finish in the Mike Becraft Invitational at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears (9-2) scored 143 points to place third in the 12-team field in the two-day meet.
Findlay and Albion (Mich.) tied for first place with 161.5 points each.
The top eight finishers in each event scored points for their team.
Schatzle won the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.50 meters.
Goodrich won the 800 meters, finishing in a time of 2:26.49.
Sellers won the discus throw, posting a mark of 39.80 meters.
The Polar Bears posted six additional top-three finishes.
ONU's 4x100 relay team of Schatzle, sophomore Rosie Schroeder (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) and freshmen Kendra Krichbaum (Ashland) and Chloe Gibson (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley) finished second, running a time of :49.99.
Gibson added a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.13 meters.
Senior Taylor Ellerbrock (Columbus Grove) was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:33.39, and senior Rue Whitmore (Mason) added a third-place finish in the 1,500 meters with a time of 5:05.82.
Senior Mackenzie Detmer (Liberty Center) was third in the triple jump with a mark of 10.25 meters.
Northern's 4x400 relay team of junior Gabrielle Kowalczyk (Marion/Pleasant), sophomore J.J. Herron (Miamisburg) and freshmen Olyvia Ashbrook (Johnstown/Northridge) and Katelyn Messner (Granville) placed third, running a time of 4:18.37.
Northern notched seven more top-five finishes.
Krichbaum was fourth in the 100 meters with a time of :12.61, junior Cienna Kuhn (Elida) was fourth in the pole vault with a height of 3.20 meters and freshman Izzy Burman (Benton Ridge/Liberty Benton) was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 11.31 meters.
Sellers was fifth in the shot put with a mark of 11.25 meters, Kowalczyk was fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:02.29, sophomore Olivia Ogg (Hebron/Lakewood) was fifth in the pole vault with a height of 3.20 meters, and freshman Larkin Warner (Findlay) was fifth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 21:19.83.
The Polar Bears rounded out the day with 10 additional top-8 points-scoring finishes.
ONU will return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Hillsdale (Mich.) Relays.
