ADA — Ohio Northern alumnus Emily Richards is competing in the 800-meter run at the USATF Indoor Championships at The Podium in Spokane, Wash., on Saturday and Sunday.
Richards will compete against 17 other runners in the 800 prelim on Saturday at 6:24 p.m. (EST).
Richards is scheduled to run in Lane 5 during the event's second heat. There are three heats, and the heat winners and the runners with the next three fastest times will advance to the final, which is scheduled for Sunday at 5:22 p.m. (EST).
The qualifying time for the 800 is 2:03.00, and Richards enters the event with a season- and personal-best time of 2:01.52.
The meet will be broadcast on CNBC on television and streamed online on USATF.TV.
Richards most recently competed on the national stage in June at the U.S. Olympic Trials, where she placed eighth in her heat and 32nd out of 42 total runners in the outdoor 800 meters at the University of Oregon's Haywood Stadium in Eugene.
In what was her first-ever U.S. Olympic Trials competition, Richards ran a time of 2:03.88, which was her third-fastest time since 2018.
Richards, who turned professional in 2018, was a nine-time NCAA champion and 13-time All-American during her four years as a Polar Bear student-athlete from 2015 to 2018.
She currently serves as an assistant track and field coach at ONU.
