This Weekend's Preview: The Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs will host the 2019 Polar Bear Final Qualifier this Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2 inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse ... The meet begins at 12 p.m. Friday with the men's heptathlon and the women's pentathlon competitions ... The men's heptathlon will conclude Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with the final three events ... Field events are slated for 11 a.m. Saturday morning with running events to follow at 12 p.m. ... The meet will not be scored ... The Polar Bears enter the weekend owning a 24-8 record ... They are currently ranked fifth in the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region power rankings, which was released on Feb. 26 ... Last weekend, ONU finished fifth at the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference Championships inside the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse ... Senior thrower Tia Harris and junior All-American Maggie Krause led the individual efforts with event titles in the shot put and pole vault, respectively ... Harris broke her own school record in the shot put with a 13.51-meter heave (44' 4") and led after all six rounds en route to her first conference championship ... Meanwhile, Krause cleared 3.77 meters (12' 4.50") to claim her first pole vault championship ... Classmate Allison Stevens ended second in the pole vault with a 3.47-meter mark (11' 4.50") ... Senior Avery Ewing ran a season-best 2:17.60 to finish second in the 800-meter run and earn 11th career All-OAC honor ... Junior Taylor Lavey and sophomore Stella DeWitt also received All-Conference recognition after placing third in the 60-meter dash and the long jump events, respectively ... Additionally, freshman Kayla Silva tied the school record in the 60-meter dash over the weekend with a 7.92 clocking in the preliminary rounds.
Head Coach Jason Maus: Maus is in his 10th season leading the Ohio Northern men's and women's track and field programs at Ohio Northern ... He currently owns a 390-129-1 record during the women's indoor season, a .751 win percentage.
