Sophomore Maddy Reed leads No. 5 Women's Indoor Track & Field at Day 1 of OAC Championships

BEREA — Sophomore Maddy Reed (Lucasville/Piketon) led the No. 5-ranked Ohio Northern women's track and field team on day one of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at Baldwin Wallace University.
Reed broke her own previous school record and set a new OAC record en route to a first place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 13' 1.5".
Reed currently owns the second best vault in the nation.
Junior Kelly Wollenslegel (Clyde) posted a fifth place finish in the event with a height of 10" 11.5".
In the long jump, senior Kelsey Commager (Maumee) took second place with a leap of 17' 10.25".
Senior Michelle Mosler (Wapakoneta) and sophomore Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta) each advanced to the finals in the 500-meter dash, as Mosler finished sixth in 1:21.23 and Fisher took sixth in 1:27.55.
Senior Meagan Ellinger (Bath, Ind./Union County) advanced to Saturday's finals in the 400-meter dash, finishing fifth in 1:01.17.
In the 55-meter hurdles, senior Allie Gast (Grandville, Mich.) advanced to Saturday's finals as she finished first in the prelims in :8.42.
Senior Rebecca Carman (Bellefontaine) also advanced to the finals in the event, finishing fourth in :8.98.
The distance medley relay team of seniors Genevieve Marchese (Beavercreek/Carroll), Nicole Huber (Findlay), sophomore Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) and freshman Taylor Lavey (Findlay) finished the evening with a third place finish in 12:45.80.
Otterbein currently sits in first place with 44 points, while Northern is second with 37 points and Mount Union rounds out the top-3 with 34 points.
"Our women looked really good today," said head coach Jason Maus. "We had a lot of great advancements and saw alot of great all conference performances. Maddy had a phenomenal day for us and that was great to see. Our DMR team really showed up and had a huge day for us. We like where we are at heading into tomorrow."
Northern will return to action tomorrow afternoon as they conclude the OAC Championships on day two of the event.
