400 Medley Relay team earns All-Conference accolades to pace Women's Swimming and Diving on Day 2 of 2023 OAC Championships

AKRON — Ohio Northern earned All-Conference honors in the 400-yard medley relay on day two of the 2023 Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday evening at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron.
The 400 medley relay team of senior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine), senior Abby Schauer (Beavercreek), sophomore Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross) and senior Gabbie Grant (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) finished second in 4:03.73.
ONU has 167 points to stand third after six of the 20 events in the four-day championships meet.
Northern began the day with a third place finish in the 200-yard free relay as sophomores Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross), sophomore Annie Richters (Troy/Miami East), sophomore Sydney Selinsky (Dover/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and Grant touched in 1:40.68.
Sophomore Hannah Eversole (Cincinnati/Mt. Notre Dame) was sixth in the 200 I.M. in 2:17.68.
In the 50-yard free, Grant was fifth in :25.04 and freshman Gracie Smith (Findlay) was eighth in 25:39.
The top three finishers in the 15 individual events and the top two relay teams in each of the five relay events earn All-Conference honors, while the top 16 swimmers in each event score team points in each event.
John Carroll leads the team standings with 292 points, Mount Union is second with 250 points, Baldwin Wallace is fourth with 154 points and Wilmington is fifth with 94 points.
The third day of competition will be Friday with prelims at 10 am and finals at 6 pm.
