Brown wins 3 events as Women's Swimming and Diving defeats OAC rival John Carroll 156-137

ADA — Freshman Mara Brown (Fremont/Ross) won three events to lead the Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team to a 156-137 victory over defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion John Carroll Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 2-2 overall and are 2-0 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks fall to 0-1, 0-1.
Brown won the 100-yard back in 1:12.37, 100-yard fly in 1:02.54 and the 200-yard IM in 2:20.49.
The Polar Bears also had two individuals win two events on the day, junior Shelby Starkey (Bellefontaine) and sophomore Katie Bend (Carmel, Ind.).
Starkey won both the 100-yard and 200-yard back in 1:01.93 and 2:16.32, respectively.
Bend won both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard free in 5:35.73 and 11:28.17. Freshman Hannah Eversole (Cincinnati/Mt Notre Dame) finished second to Bend in both events in 5:38.77 and 11:35.21, respectively.
Senior Megan Lubinski (Loveland/Brighton) won the 200-yard free in 2:00.47 and finished second in both the 50-yard and 100-yard free with times of 25.07 and 54.80, respectively.
Junior Abby Schauer (Beavercreek) took home a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-yard back and 200-yard IM in 2:17.38 and 2:24.13, respectively.
Junior Gabbie Grant (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Lakeview) and freshman Aubrey Pritchard (Delaware/Olentangy Berlin) added second-place finishes, with Grant in the 200-yard free in 2:06.39 and Pritchard in the 200-yard breast in 2:42.40.
ONU won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:54.31 consisting of Starkey, Brown, Shaw, and Lubinski and finished second in the 200-yard relay in 1:45.04 consisting of Annie Richters (Troy/Miami East), Sydney Selinsky (Dover/Tuscarawas Central Catholic), Grant, and Shaw.
The Polar Bears will return to the pool Friday and Saturday at the Calvin (Mich.) Quad meet.
