ADA — Junior Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) and senior Becky Moss (Lebanon/Mount Notre Dame) was each named to the NCAA Division III Women's Scholar All-American Second Team by United Soccer Coaches.
Cabana, a defender, and Moss, a goalkeeper, were two of 16 Second Team selections. Cabana, a biology and pre-dentistry major, boasts a 4.0 GPA. Moss, a marketing major, boasts a 3.76 GPA.
Cabana and Moss have already earned numerous accolades this season.
Cabana was one of 11 student-athletes from across the country to be named a First Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators and was an All-Ohio First Team and Academic All-Ohio First Team selection. A 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference First Team selection as the conference's Co-Defender of the Year, Cabana has also earned NCAA Division III All-America Third Team and All-District VII First Team accolades from United Soccer Coaches in addition to CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-OAC status this season.
Cabana was a key member of the ONU defense that limited opponents to 5.6 shots, including just 2.6 on goal, per game in 2022. Opponents combined to score just nine goals against ONU all season, and the Polar Bears posted 15 shutouts, including a stretch of nine straight from Oct. 12 to Nov. 12. The nine goals allowed marked a new program record for a non-shortened season, and the 15 total shutouts and nine consecutive shutouts are both just one shy of all-time records.
Cabana started all 21 games this year, tallying six goals and six assists. Her assist total tied for fourth-best in the OAC, and her 18 points tied for the team lead and was tied for ninth in the conference. She has started 42 of her 44 career games at ONU and will enter her senior season with 29 points on nine goals and 11 assists.
Moss earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region VII First Team, All-Ohio First Team and Academic All-Ohio First Team honors this season in addition to being a First Team All-OAC selection as the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year. She played all 1,910 minutes of ONU's 21 games, recording a program single-season record 15 shutouts. A member of the OAC All-Tournament Team and a CSC Academic All-District honoree, Moss finished the season with 48 saves, a 0.42 GAA and .842 save percentage. She led the OAC in GAA and ranked second in save percentage. Moss' 15 career shutouts rank ninth all-time at ONU, and her 0.42 GAA is second-lowest for a single season in program history.
The Polar Bears finished the 2022 season 14-2-5 overall and were OAC regular season co-champions with Capital, posting a 7-0-2 mark in conference play. They won their second straight OAC Tournament championship to clinch an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the second round for the second consecutive year.
