Cabana, Moss, Roberts headline All-Ohio selections for Women’s Soccer

ADA — Six student-athletes represented the Ohio Northern women's soccer team on the annual Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio teams for the 2022 season.
Junior defender Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.), senior goalkeeper Becky Moss (Lebanon/Mount Notre Dame), junior forward Jill Roberts (Bellbrook/Carroll) and sophomore midfielder Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) were each named to the All-Ohio First Team.
Cabana, Moss and Roberts were also selected to the Academic All-Ohio First Team.
Junior defender Bri Straus (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and senior midfielder Kylie Brown (Jamestown, N.Y./Southwestern Central) were named to the Academic All-Ohio Second Team.
These accolades are the latest in a long list of them for Cabana this season. The pre-dentistry major boasts a 4.0 GPA and was one of 11 student-athletes from across the country to be named a First Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators.
A 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference First Team selection as the conference's Co-Defender of the Year, Cabana has also earned NCAA Division III All-America Third Team and All-District VII First Team accolades from United Soccer Coaches in addition to CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-OAC status this season.
Cabana was a key member of the ONU defense that limited opponents to 5.6 shots, including just 2.6 on goal, per game in 2022. Opponents combined to score just nine goals against ONU all season, and the Polar Bears posted 15 shutouts, including a stretch of nine straight from Oct. 12 to Nov. 12. The nine goals allowed marked a new program record for a non-shortened season, and the 15 total shutouts and nine consecutive shutouts are both just one shy of all-time records.
Cabana started all 21 games this year, tallying six goals and six assists. Her assist total tied for fourth-best in the OAC, and her 18 points tied for the team lead and was tied for ninth in the conference. She has started 42 of her 44 career games at ONU and will enter her senior season with 29 points on nine goals and 11 assists.
Moss earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region VII First Team honors this season in addition to being a First Team All-OAC selection as the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year. She played all 1,910 minutes of ONU's 21 games, recording a program single-season record 15 shutouts. A member of the OAC All-Tournament Team and a CSC Academic All-District honoree, Moss finished the season with 48 saves, a 0.42 GAA and .842 save percentage. She led the OAC in GAA and ranked second in save percentage. Moss' 15 career shutouts rank ninth all-time at ONU, and her 0.42 GAA is second-lowest for a single season in program history.
She boasts a 3.8 GPA as a marketing major.
Roberts was a United Soccer Coaches All-Region VII Second Team selection and an All-OAC First Team and OAC All-Tournament Team pick this season in addition to earning CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-OAC honors. She tallied 15 points on six goals and three assists and scored the game-winning goal in the OAC Tournament championship game. Roberts has started in all 54 games in her ONU career and has 31 points on 12 goals and seven assists to her credit.
She boasts a 3.93 GPA as a biology and Spanish major.
Beckett, a United Soccer Coaches All-Region VII First Team pick, earned an All-OAC First Team selection as the conference's Midfielder of the Year in 2022. She started 17 games this season, finishing with a team-high eight goals and matching Cabana with 18 points to go with two assists. The point total ranked tied for ninth in the OAC, and she ranked tied for eighth in the conference in goals. Through two seasons, Beckett has 28 points on 12 goals and four assists in 40 games, including 39 starts.
Straus, an exercise physiology major with a 3.92 GPA, was named to the All-OAC Second Team and CSC Academic All-District Team and earned Academic All-OAC honors this season after recording five points on two goals and one assist. Joining Cabana as another key member of the ONU defense, she has started in all 53 games in her ONU career.
Brown, a pharmacy major with a 3.38 GPA, was named to the All-OAC Tournament Team this season after assisting the game-winning goal in the championship game at Capital. She finished the year with nine points on three goals and three assists in 19 games, including 14 starts. Brown has played in 44 career games at ONU.
The Polar Bears finished the 2022 season 14-2-5 overall and were OAC regular season co-champions with Capital, posting a 7-0-2 mark in conference play. They won their second straight OAC Tournament championship to clinch an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the second round for the second consecutive year.
