ADA — Ohio Northern junior Kylie Cabana (Dexter, Mich.) was named a 2022 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer All-American by United Soccer Coaches on Wednesday.
Cabana, a defender, was selected to the All-America Third Team.
A total of 45 student-athletes were selected across the First, Second and Third Teams.
This latest recognition comes after United Soccer Coaches named Cabana to its NCAA Division III All-Region VII First Team.
Cabana has earned a long list of other accolades this season. She was named Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week on Sept. 6 and was selected to the All-OAC First Team as the conference's Co-Defender of the Year. She is also an Academic All-OAC and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team honoree.
Cabana was a key member of the ONU defense that limited opponents to 5.6 shots, including just 2.6 on goal, per game in 2022. Opponents combined to score just nine goals against ONU all season, and the Polar Bears posted 15 shutouts, including a stretch of nine straight from Oct. 12 to Nov. 12.
The nine goals allowed marked a new program record for a non-shortened season, and the 15 total shutouts and nine consecutive shutouts are both just one shy of all-time records.
An All-OAC Third Team and Academic All-OAC selection as a sophomore, Cabana started all 21 games this year, tallying six goals and six assists. Her assist total tied for fourth-best in the OAC, and her 18 points tied for the team lead and was tied for ninth in the conference.
Cabana has started 42 of her 44 career games at ONU and will enter her senior season with 29 points on nine goals and 11 assists.
This marks the second straight season that a member of the ONU women's soccer team has been named an All-American, as then-senior Carissa Beckham was named to the Third Team in 2021. Overall, the program has seen seven players earn eight All-America honors since 2010.
Cabana and the rest of this year's All-Americans will be recognized for their accomplishments at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Ceremony and Reception on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia in conjunction with the United Soccer Coaches Convention.
The Polar Bears finished the 2022 season 14-2-5 overall and were OAC regular season co-champions with Capital, posting a 7-0-2 mark in conference play. They won their second straight OAC Tournament championship to clinch an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the second round for the second consecutive year.
