ADA — The 18th-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team extended its current win streak to three games on Saturday, securing its third straight shutout in a 2-0 victory over Grove City (Pa.) at Kerscher Stadium.
After opening the season with a 1-1 tie with Wittenberg and a 3-1 loss to Emory (Ga.), the Polar Bears (3-1-1 overall) have proceeded to outscore their next three opponents by a combined 4-0 margin.
The Wolverines (2-1-0 overall) were held to just six shot attempts in Saturday's game, all of which came in the second half, while ONU tallied 13 shots.
Senior goalkeeper Kristy Catrine back-ended ONU's solid defensive play, making three saves.
The Polar Bears' goals came via sophomore Alaina Casey (Beavercreek/Carroll) and freshman Alyssa Beckett (Monroe) on assists from junior Lauren Naso (Grosse Ile, Mich.) and sophomore Jill Roberts (Bellbrook, Carroll), respectively.
Casey's goal came just over 22 minutes into the game, giving her two on the year and tying her with Roberts for the team lead.
The score remained 1-0 at intermission and throughout much of the second half until Beckett found the back of the net with just over 11 minutes remaining.
Roberts' assist on Beckett's goal increased her team-high total in that category to three, giving her a team-leading seven points on the season.
The Polar Bears will look to extend their win streak when they return to action on Wednesday to host Case Western Reserve at 7 p.m. at Kerscher Stadium.
