ADA — Senior Siena Ward (Newport Beach, Cal./Newport Harbor) scored a goal to lead the unbeaten Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory against previously unbeaten Capital Monday night at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears remained unbeaten (7-0-0 overall, and 7-0-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference) and handed the Crusaders (5-1-0, 5-1-0) their first loss of the season.
Ward took a free kick from about 25 yards and deposited it in the upper right of the goal to score the only goal of the game.
Ward earned the free kick as she drew a foul by a Capital defender who pushed Ward on her attempt at the ball.
Junior Kristy Catrine (Springboro) recorded six saves in her seventh consecutive shutout in goal. She ran her scoreless streak to 623 minutes this season and 626 minutes in her career.
CU out-shot ONU 14-11 and the Polar Bears had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Polar Bears will return to action on Thursday with a 7 pm contest at Otterbein in Memorial Stadium.
