Friday's Preview: The 17th-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team continues its journey in the 2019 NCAA Tournament … The Polar Bears will battle No. 25 Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) at Joe Bean Stadium at 4:30 p.m. (EST) … This marks the second time in school history that ONU has advanced past the second round … Northern — which has competed in five NCAA Tournaments, compiling a record of 5-4-2 — played in the Elite Eight in 2017 … The Polar Bears are fresh off a thrilling 4-2 penalty shootout win over Scranton in Ada Sunday … Seniors Haley Moses, Rose Nienaber, junior Jenna Fuller and sophomore Carissa Beckham all converted penalty kicks to vault ONU past the Royals … ONU senior goaltender Meagan Grierson turned away two of the four penalty kicks that came her way … Northern — which owns a 18-2-3 overall record and hasn't suffered a loss since Sept. 20 — is averaging 2.4 goals per game and only allowing foes to score 0.6 goals per contest … Fuller, who was named OAC Forward of the Year, paces Northern with 20 goals, which is the most of any player at ONU since 1997 … Her 48 career goals ranks fourth all-time in school history, while her 113 points puts her sixth all-time … Fuller's 10 game-winning goals this season is second-best in the nation … Nienaber, another first-team All-OAC selection, has nine scores in 2019 … She has 21 assists in her ONU career, which ranks her in a tie for seventh all-time in school history … Juniors Emma Barney and Siena Ward have four goals apiece this season … Moses, who earned first-team All-OAC distinction, junior Sydney Leshnak — who has reeled in OAC Defender of the Year honors two straight years — and junior Abigail Mathews have three goals each this season … Moses has accumulated 20 assists in her time at ONU and that ranks in a tie for ninth all-time in program history … Grierson — who became the only goalie to win OAC Goaltender of the Year four straight years — has started all 23 games in net in 2019 and boasts 64 saves and an OAC-best 12 shut outs … Grierson's 44 career shut outs is tops in program history, and her 199 career saves ranks her sixth all-time at ONU … Carnegie Mellon — which lays claim to a 13-5-1 overall record — averages 2.5 goals per game and allows 0.8 scores per contest … Alex Adams paces the Tartans with 13 goals in 2019 … Andrea Sipos has started 13 games in net and has made 36 saves with a pair of shut outs … The Tartans — who have played in seven NCAA Tournaments — defeated Cairn (Pa.) 7-0 and Swarthmore 1-0 in the first two rounds of the 2019 NCAA Tournament in Pittsburgh ...
