ADA — The Ohio Northern women's soccer team, sporting their new No. 23 ranking, extended its win streak to six games Wednesday night at Kerscher Stadium. The Polar Bears downed Wilmington 2-0 to improve to 10-2-2 overall and 4-0-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
Northern dominated the game offensively. The Polar Bears registered 23 shots, nine of which were on target. The Quakers managed just two shots, only one of which was on frame.
Senior Rose Nienaber (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) opened the scoring with her fifth goal of the season. She scored off a feed from junior Sydney Leshnak (Cincinnati/Mount Notre Dame).
Leshnak also assisted on the contest's other score. Junior Siena Ward (Newport Beach, Cal./Newport Harbor) netted the game's second and final goal in the 26th minute off a feed from Leshnak and junior Abigail Mathews (Liberty Township/Lakota East).
ONU senior goaltender Meagan Grierson (Dayton/Miamisburg) recorded her seventh shut out of 2019 and 39th of her career, which is tops in program history.
The Polar Bears travel to John Carroll Saturday.
