ADA — Sophomore Tara Morris (Monroe) and freshman Hailey McGuire (Lone Tree, Colo./Highlands Ranch) added their names to list of 2019 goal scorers for the Ohio Northern women's soccer team Saturday at Kerscher Stadium. Those two scores helped the Polar Bears topple UC Clermont 2-0 to improve to 6-2-2 on the season.
Northern peppered a collection of three UC Clermont goaltenders. The Polar Bears registered 23 shots, 12 of which were on target. Six ONU players recorded at least two shots, and junior Jenna Fuller (Countryside, Ill./Lyons Township) led the way with three.
The Cougars, on the other hand, mustered but one shot and Northern senior goaltender Meagan Grierson (Dayton/Miamisburg) was up to the challenge en route to her fourth shut out of the season and her program-leading 36 of her career.
After the two squads failed to score in the first half, Morris gave the game its first tally in the 61st minute. She scored off a feed from freshman Allison Contenza (Rocky River). McGuire put the finishing touches on the victory with the first goal of her career in the 88th minute.
The Polar Bears take the week off before playing host to Marietta Saturday in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener.
