Meagan Grierson receives OAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition
By Blake Moore
ADA - Junior goalkeeper Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg) has earned Ohio Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the first time during the 2018 season, the league office announced Monday afternoon with the release of their weekly awards list.
Grierson anchored a Polar Bears' defense that recorded its fourth and fifth consecutive shutouts against Oberlin and Thomas More (Ky.), respectively, and a 2-0-0 weekly record during the voting period. The two victories pushed ONU's current win streak to five and moved the program to 5-2-0 on the season.
The five shutouts in 2018 give Grierson 25 clean sheets for her career, which ranks third all-time in school history.
Additionally, the junior netminder recorded two saves and logged 180 minutes in goal over the week.
The nomination marks the second time in her career, and first time this season, that Grierson has received OAC Athlete of the Week honors.
The Polar Bears are scheduled to return to action Tuesday, September 25 when they host Wittenberg in their 2018 nonconference finale. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Kerscher Stadium in Ada.
