ADA — Senior Shelby Stephens (Cypress, Tex./Cypress Woods) scored a goal and added an assist as the Ohio Northern women's soccer team won its fourth straight contest with a 2-0 shutout over Wilmington at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 11-3-0 overall, and 5-1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Quakers fall to 5-5-4, 0-4-2.
After a nearly scoreless first half, Stephens would dribble passed three defenders and find the back of the net as she went to the far post from the left wing in the 42nd minute to give ONU the 1-0 lead.
The Polar Bears would strike early in the second half as Stephens played a perfect cross into the goalies box and senior Missy Ward (Columbus/Westerville North) touched it passed the WC keeper to seal the 2-0 victory.
The Northern defense only allowed six shots on the evening, while the offense fired 20 shots, including seven on goal.
Wilmington would edge ONU 6-4 in the corner kick battle.
Freshman goalkeeper Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg/Miamisburg) improved to 11-0-3 on the year and posted her fifth shutout of the season.
The freshman added two saves for the Polar Bears.
Ohio Northern will return to the field Saturday afternoon as it takes on the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum at 1 pm in New Concord.
