ADA -- Freshman Alyssa Manley (Lima/Bath) scored twice as the Ohio Northern women's soccer team defeated John Carroll 3-1 Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights.
The Polar Bears improve to 10-3-0 overall, and 4-1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks fall to 5-4-6, 2-1-2.
Manley got Northern on the scoreboard early as freshman Haley Moses (Mason/William Mason) found Manley in the 12th minute to make the score 1-0.
After a defensive battle the remainder of the first half, Northern would strike in the 48th minute as Moses found Junior Abbey Oswald (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) to push the lead to 2-0.
Manley would add an insurance goal in the 81st minute as she received a pass from Oswald and found the back of the net to extend the lead to 3-0.
JCU would get one back in the 85th minute, but was unable to get any closer as Northern went on to win 3-1.
Freshman Meagan Grierson earned the victory in the goal for ONU and improved to 10-3-0 on the year.
Northern outshot the Blue Streaks by a 10-6 margin, while the corner kick battle ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Polar Bears return to action Tuesday evening as they host Wilmington at Kerscher Stadium at 7 pm.
