ADA -- Senior Missy Ward (Columbus/Westerville North) led the No. 21-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team as it downed Capital 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Crusaders drop to 5-6-0, 2-1-0.
Ward led the Polar Bear offense as she scored the lone goal of the afternoon.
In the 22nd minute, senior Shelby Stephens (Cypress, Tex./Cypress Woods) found Ward on a cross from the left wing and Ward beat the CU keeper to give Northern the 1-0 lead.
Capital outshot the Polar Bears by a 15-12 margin.
Freshman Meagan Grierson (Miamisburg/Miamisburg) improved to 8-3-0 on the year and posted her fifth shutout of the season.
Grierson recorded seven saves to lead ONU defensively.
Northern will return to action Wednesday evening at 7 pm as they host Heidelberg at Kerscher Stadium.
