ADA — Junior Abbey Oswald (Lambertville, Mich./Bedford) scored the lone goal for the No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern women's soccer team as it fell to Wittenberg 2-1 Tuesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 6-2-0 overall, while the Tigers improve to 4-3-2.
Wittenberg would strike first in the 23rd minute as Morgan Jones collected a rebound and found the back of the net to give WU a 1-0 lead.
After a slow start to the second half, Oswald was able to even the score as she beat a defender and found the back of the net to make it 1-1 in the 69th minute.
Wittenberg was able to seal the game in the 81st minute as a header found the back of the net to push the lead to 2-1.
In the 84th minute, a desperation shot from sophomore Sarah Puntel (Strongsville/Strongsville) would hit the cross bar and narrowly miss the goal.
Freshman Rose Nienaber (Cincinnatti/Oak Hills) would threaten in the final minute but narrowly missed as WU went on to win 2-1.
Northern outshot the Tigers by a 23-10 mark and won the corner kick battle by a 4-2 margin.
The Polar Bears will return to action Saturday as they travel to Alliance to take on Mount Union in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener at 1 pm.
