ADA -- The Ohio Northern women's soccer team was led by junior Shelby Stephens, as the Polar Bears defeated Transylvania (Ky.) 4-0 Wednesday evening at Kerscher Stadium.
The Polar Bears improve to 4-5-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 2-5-1 on the year.
Stephens led the way for ONU as she recorded two goals on the evening.
Northern struck first as Stephens capitalized on a failed clearance from Transylvania in the 12th minute to make the score 1-0.
Stephens would find the back of the net once more in the 23rd minute after she capitalized on a penalty kick to put Northern up 2-0.
Northern would add another insurance goal in the 63rd minute as freshman McKenna Welsh capitalized on a corner kick from sophomore Mary Kate Munz.
Munz would seal the game in the 74th minute as she scored on a deflected ball off of a corner kick to give Northern the 4-0 victory.
The Polar Bears recorded nine first half shots, five of which were on goal and out shot Transylvania by an overall margin of 17-4.
Northern returns to action Saturday afternoon as they open the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of their schedule and travel to John Carroll for a 7 pm contest.
