PITTSBURGH, PA — Freshman McKenna Welsh scored the lone goal to lead the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Allegheny (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at the Carnegie Mellon DoubleTree Tartan Cup in Pittsburgh (Pa.).
The Polar Bears improve to 3-1-1 overall while the Gators fall to 0-4-0 on the season.
Northern would outshoot Allegheny in the first half 6-0 and capitalized in the 34th minute as Welsh recieved a pass from freshman Sarah Puntel and found the back of the net to make the score 1-0.
The Polar Bears played stifling defense and only allowed the Gators to get two shots on goal.
ONU would finish the contest outshooting Allegheny 7-2 on the afternoon.
Senior Emily Brodict recorded two saves and improved her record to 3-1-1 on the year.
The Polar Bears will return to action Wednesday at 4 pm as they host Denison at Kerscher Stadium.
