ADA -- Sophomore goalie Emily Brodict recorded her fourth straight shutout to lead the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Capital on Sunday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.
Northern improves to 8-6-1 on the season and 4-1-0 in the OAC, while Capital drops to 10-4-1, 3-2-0.
The victory also puts ONU in a first place tie atop the OAC with Baldwin Wallace.
The Polar Bears struck early when senior Sandy Plunkett found the net in the 15th minute for her third goal of the season. Freshman Michaela Gutierrez picked up the assist on the play.
Northern would increase their lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute when senior Abbie Schauble sent a ball to senior Sandra Thorarensen who headed past the Capital keeper.
Thorarensen now has a team leading six goals on the season.
The Northern defense held strong in the second half, not allowing the Crusaders to find the back of the net.
ONU outshot Capital 22-11 and held the advantage on corner kicks, 10-6.
"This was a tough weekend, after traveling to Marietta last night then finishing here," head coach mark Batman said. "It was a great win against a very tough and physical team. I know Capital will go and have a great season. Right now I'm just happy for the girls, they played great this weekend."
Brodict finished with two saves on the afternoon.
Maggie Donnellan recorded eight saves between the post for Capital.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on Tuesday when it hosts Heidelberg at 4 pm.
