Women's Soccer falls in Second Round of NCAA III Tournament

PITTSBURGH (Pa.)--The Ohio Northern women's soccer team came to a close, as they dropped a hard fought 1-0 decision to No. 17 Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon at the CMU Soccer Field.
The Tartans improve to 13-1-4, while the Polar Bears conclude their season at 13-5-5.
CMU advances to the third round where they will play Wheaton (Mass.) at a time and site to be determined.
The Tartans stared off quick, taking three corner kicks in the first five minutes.
But the ONU defense was solid and was able to deny any shots.
The Tartans scored the lone goal of the matc at the 9:58 mark, when Stephanie Hare took a free kick from about 10 yards outside of the box that bounced past senior goalkeeper Erin Waehner.
Northern had a chance in the 31st minute when sophomore Kristina Klusek sent a ball into the box that sophomore Lauryn Zielinski shot wide.
The Polar Bears had another chance when Klusek found freshman Morgan Miles streaking towards the goal, but Tartan goalie Anna Albi came out to knock it away.
Seconds later, Zielinski fired a shot from outside the box, but Albi made the save.
In the second half, Northern had a free kick in the 53rd minute, but junior Abbie Schauble attempt sailed just high.
The Tartans let an opportunity slip away when Courtney Brant took a shot that sailed high in the 75th minute.
The Polar Bears missed a chance in the 79th minute when senior Paige Garber sent a free kick into the box.
The CMU goalie fell down and the ball squirted free, but the Tartan defense was able to clear the ball.
Schauble fired a shot for ONU in the 87th minute, but it was saved.
Northern was unable to mount any attack in the closing moments as Carnegie Mellon walked away with the victory.
Waehner (13-4-5), made one save on the afternoon.
Albi (13-1-4) stopped two shots for Carnegie Mellon.
The Tartans outshot the Polar Bears by a 12-6 margin and took 10 corner kicks compared to none for ONU.
