WILMINGTON – Sophomore Kristina Klusek scored two goals, including the match-winner with 1:37 left, to lift the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Wilmington Tuesday night at Charlie Gilhart Field.
With the win the Polar Bears improve to 9-4-4 overall and 4-3-1 in the OAC, while the Quakers fall to 11-6-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the OAC.
The victory also kept Ohio Northern in the hunt for a spot in the 6-team OAC Tournament and can clinch a spot with a victory in its regular season finale on Saturday at Muskingum.
Klusek's second goal came after a flurry which saw ONU hit the post four times before the ball finally went into the goal.
Klusek hit the post, freshman Lauren Brown hit the post and Klusek hit the post again before Klusek took the winning shot, hitting the post a fourth time and deflecting into the goal.
The scoring starting with Ohio Northern getting on the board in the 26th minute when Klusek put a free kick past the goalie.
The game went into halftime with the Polar Bears up 1-0.
The Quakers knotted the game 1-1 in the 58th minute when Ohio Northern gave up an own goal.
It appeared that the game would go into overtime until Klusek fired a shot that deflected of the post and into the net for the game clinching goal with 1:32 left in the game.
Senior goalie Erin Waehner made six saves in the match while Quaker freshman goalie Sarah Stauffer made three saves.
The Polar Bears fired 13 shots with five being on goal, while the Quakers had 11 shots with seven being on goal.
