ADA--The Ohio Northern women's soccer team tied John Carroll 1-1 in a double overtime nail biter at the Ohio Northern soccer field Saturday afternoon.
The Polar Bears now have an overall record of 8-4-4, and 3-3-1 in the OAC. The Blue Streaks now stand at 8-5-3 for the season, 3-1-3 in OAC competition.
The game entered halftime tied at 0-0.
Northern had many opportunities in the first half, one of which coming from senior Tara Tokar's shot in the 9th minute that bounced off the crossbar.
John Carroll got on the board in the 61st minute of the game with an unassisted goal from sophomore Kaylin Akerly.
John Carroll was called for a handball in the box in the 66th minute on an ONU cross.
Junior Sami Atkinson took the penalty kick for the Polar Bears and buried it in the left side of the goal to beat the goalie and tie things up at 1-1.
In overtime, Northern put up five shots to JCU's one but neither team could find the back of the net.
Senior goalie Erin Waehner added and now stands at 8-3-4.
The advantage of shots went to the Polar Bears, 34-6.
ONU had 16 shots in the first half and 13 in the second half.
The Polar Bears will be i action again when they travel to Wilmington on Tuesday for a 7 pm match.
