No. 12 Women’s Soccer Finishes a Perfect 9-0 in OAC Play with 5-0 Victory Over Marietta

MARIETTA — Sophomore Abbie Schauble notched three points to lead the Ohio Northern women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Marietta, Saturday afternoon at Marietta Field.
Northern finishes the regular season with a 15-1-2 overall record and a 9-0-0 record on the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 1-16-1 overall and 0-9-0 in the OAC.
This marks the first time in ONU women's soccer history that the team has finished perfect in OAC play. Northern went unbeaten in 2007 with a 8-0-1 conference record.
The Polar Bears are now on a 15-match unbeaten streak, which is a school record and has won eleven matches in a row, which also is a school record.
Sophomore Sami Atkinson got Ohio Northern on the board in the fourth minute when she beat the goalie in the upper left corner.
The goal tied Atkinson for the OAC lead with fellow teammate freshman Kristina Klusek.
Schauble then took a pass from Klusek in the 27th minute and beat the keeper to the lower left to give Northern a 2-0 lead.
Sophomore Lauren Zielinski scored her second goal of the season in the 49th minute by taking a pass from senior Alyssa Merrick and blasting the ball to the upper left corner of the net.
The assist was Merrick's OAC-leading 13th on the season.
Junior Tara Tokar then scored in the 52nd minute taking a Schauble pass and beating the keeper for her fourth goal on the season.
Junior Paige Garber concluded the Polar Bear scoring in the 66th with goal into the left corner off of a free kick from sophomore Sara Rutherford.
Junior Erin Waehner and senior Kristen DeWees combined to shutout the Pioneers.
Northern outshot the Pioneers by a 27-4 margin.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on Thursday at 2 p.m. when they host the winner of the fourth/fifth seed OAC quarterfinal matchup.
